Local valley entrepreneurs, Steve & Andi Rosenstein have purchased the historic Anchor Manufacturing Building in downtown Phoenix’ emerging warehouse district. Built in 1928 and listed on both the state and National Historic Registers, the building is located on the prime corner of Central Ave & Lincoln and serves as the “gateway” to downtown Phoenix from the south.
Both natives of Chicago, Steve & Andi are the original creators & co-founders of the Fitigues Clothing brand. In April of 2007, the couple sold their business. After one week of retirement they discovered an area of the valley they never dreamed existed …the warehouse district.
The Anchor Building bears a striking resemblance to the historic building the couple saved from a Chicago wrecking ball in 1995 when they converted a 1910 juke box factory into their Fitigues corporate headquarters. “The Phoenix warehouse district is a hidden treasure” says Steve, “there’s a grittiness to it that reminds us of the city we left behind. Back in the day this was Phoenix’ produce district. But after dark it would transition into local gambling joints and speakeasies thus earning its’ notorious reputation and appropriate nickname, The Deuce”.
The couple’s vision for this incredibly unique historic building is inspired by the building itself, the history of the warehouse district and a passion for things that are simple, genuine and loved over time.
The Anchor Building…
Sit at the original bar from Chicago’s Black Orchid Jazz Club…drink fresh squeezed cocktails served in mason jars … buy organic dairy from the back of a vintage milk truck…hang out on wooden “old school” bleachers with a cup of coffee…grab a Chicago Trib at the old city news stand…pick up a sweatshirt reminiscent of the one you still have from college…rummage thru authentic American artifacts & antiques… order a butterscotch pudding at the dessert counter…eat Sunday brunch or Sunday dinner every day… except Monday at The Duce
Planned grand opening…Spring 2009
Until Then…
The Duce will be rented out for private parties and special events. This “gritty but classy” totally unique venue includes use of the original Black Orchid Jazz Club bar, vintage seating areas/furnishings including lighting salvaged from an old Scranton high school, huge enclosed private outdoor patio with spectacular views of the Phoenix skyline. Secure private parking lot is attached.
