Public Market Improvements Begin
Improvements began Monday for the Downtown Phoenix Public Market’s permanent grocery store, which is expected to open in June.
The 4000 square-foot retail space at 14 E Pierce St will be open five days a week and will serve as downtown Phoenix’s first local foods grocery store.

The Arizona State University Jazz Combos will headline the Green Jazz Series concert for a special encore performance on Wednesday, April 15.
The concert starts at 7 p.m. at the Herberger Theater, 222. E. Monroe St.
Contemporary Forum Presents: An Aptitude For Metamorphosis
The Contemporary Forum and Phoenix College present the next installment of the Eric Fischl Lecture Series on Tuesday, April 14 at the Phoenix Art Museum. The evening will also include the presentation of the 2009 Phoenix College Student Art Awards.
David Salle will present “An Aptitude For Metamorphosis,” a highly subjective interpretation of his work and how it has and hasn’t changed and evolved over the last 25 years. Salle’s work helped define the post-modern sensibility by combining figuration with an extremely varied pictorial language. Major exhibitions of his work have taken place at the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art. In 1986, Salle received a Guggenheim fellowship for theater design, and he is a long time collaborator with choreographer Karole Armitage designing sets and costumes for many of her ballets.

Star Trek: The Exhibition enters final weeks
Star Trek: The Exhibition is entering its final weeks after being open for six months at the Arizona Science Center. The exhibit includes authentic props and costumes from the television series and the movies, a replica of the U.S.S. Enterprise D-Bridge where visitors can sit in the captain’s chair, and a motion simulator where they will voyage through a battlefield. Visitors will also learn about Star Trek’s history, dating back 40 years. The exhibit is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will leave the Science Center on May 3.
Emerging at LUX Coffee Bar
Photographer Luis A. Salazar is introducing “Emerging,” a showcase of his new series of photographs. The display, which is at the LUX Coffee Bar, opened on April 3 and is continuing through April 28. LUX is located at 4404 N. Central Ave.
Tunes for Change at The Rhythm Room
Bring your spare change and a $10 donation to the Tunes for Change concert at The Rhythm Room on Sunday, April 12.
Tunes for Change benefits the participants of the Lodestar Day Resource Center in downtown Phoenix, which strives to help people end their homelessness. The concert, which is from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., features the sounds of The Market, Psych 101, Daryl Scairiot, and Dave Riley. The Rhythm Room is located at 10th Street and Indian School Road.
