Burton Barr Central Library will host a slide presentation and lecture with Elias Butler, co-author of “Grand Obsession: Harvey Butchart and the Exploration of the Grand Canyon,” from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, in the Pulliam Auditorium, 1221 N. Central Ave.

Butler is a photographer and writer whose work has appeared on the cover of Arizona Highways and in publications such as Backpacker, Reader’s Digest and National Geographic Adventure. “Grand Obsession” is his first book.

“Grand Obsession” tells the life story of Harvey Butchart, a Northern Arizona University professor turned Grand Canyon explorer. Butchart is credited with discovering more than 100 rim-to-river routes within the Grand Canyon and being the first person to have hiked the entire length of the canyon
