John Monti's Site-Specific Installation at Bentley Projects this Fall
August 7, 2007 by kreitzell commentJohn Monti’s high-spirited, site-specific installation will be on view at Bentley Projects expansive exhibition space during the months of October and November. The New York based artist heads the sculpture department at Pratt University and will bring a unique exploration of installation art to the Valley.![]()
Using materials such as fiberglass, resin and rubber, Monti creates an environment filled with vibrant candy-coated 3-dimensional objects resembling 1970’s flowers, target-like circles, and a larger than life doorknob appearing to be suctioned to the wall. His time-consuming, handmade components result in objects that are indistinguishable from their machine-made counterparts, adding to the work’s sense of wonder.

Playful and inviting, Monti’s sculptures are bold in both color and shape, with a simplicity that is reminiscent of the Minimalist movement and Pop Art.
The exhibition opens Friday, October 5th from 6 – 9 pm and the artist will be present. The installation will be up through November 30th.
