    CORRECTIONS

    Who needs MORE restaurants?

    - 7/23/09

I love downtown Phoenix. I love the people, I love the atmosphere and I love that it has so much potential. What I don’t get, and probably never will, is why there is so, so much focus on restaurants and retail. Restaurants attract tourists. Retail attracts shoppers. Both pay low wages. Neither serves residents. Ever [...]

    Singles Night with the DBacks

    - 7/16/09

Didn’t matter if you were young, old, hip or a little nerdy, the 2009 Singles Night with the DBacks had someone for every lonely single. Fox Sports roamed the crowd the entire night looking for people to show on TV, there was a bingo contest which included items such as “socks and sandals” and “tramp stamp” and plenty of tequila tasting (one per ticket, which, well, could have been better).

Phoenix Market Open 5 Days A Week

    - 6/05/09

Attention shoppers! The first grocery store to open in downtown Phoenix in nearly 30 years is taking shape.

On a recent afternoon, a crew worked on plumbing and electrical systems for the 2,000-square-foot store, which is expected to open sometime in August. Soon they will bring in refrigerated cases, ovens and other kitchen equipment, said Alan McLaughlin, the store’s general manager.

“We will source everything local,” he said, including meat, milk and cheese. “This will be a hangout place in the neighborhood.”

The $475,000 project is an offshoot of the popular, biweekly Phoenix Public Market, which is run by the non-profit Community Food Connections.

    Obama arrives for commencement

    - 5/15/09

Okay, so it’s not exactly downtown Phoenix, but our very own Evan Wyloge got an up-close view of POTUS arriving for his speech at ASU. Great pictures of both the plane and Mr. President himself. Nice to see some good press coming out of this visit, after Jon Stewart lampooned ASU just a few days [...]

    Pickle me this

    - 5/08/09

Sure, OVO knows branding. Yes, Kyle Hildebrant knows how to run a company. But he also knows pickles. Yes, pickles. As in wasabi-soy and a bunch of other flavors I can’t even remember. He’s the only dude I know who can pull off self-canned pickles and multiple flavors of meatballs at a fancy party. Good [...]

    Civic Space during the day

    - 5/06/09

Well, it’s in the mid-90s, and many of us are thinking of hibernating for the summer. Surprisingly, there were about 15 people in the Civic Space in the middle of the day today, most using the shade of trees for what looked like napping. Most of the people looked homeless, so they may have been [...]

    Checkers/Chess tourney at Civic Space?

    - 4/26/09

The new Civic Space has tables for checkers or chess. While this seemed ridiculous at first, well, now not so much. Tournament. The very first downtown Phoenix checkers (or chess, if you’re all smartypants) tournament, to be held evenings at Civic Space on Tuesdays/Thursdays. 8pm? Yeah? Who’s with us?

    Patience is a virtue

    - 4/16/09

Well, it’s here. The long-awaited, often-delayed and somewhat-controversial flying netting now graces the sky above our soon-to-be-open Civic Space park. Her Secret Is Patience, while certainly pretty at night, is missing something. Great art should evoke some sort of emotion, whether its wonder or disgust, but all the giant fish net evokes is, well, questions. [...]

All-Star game coming to the Valley

    - 4/13/09

Call it a celebration of America’s pastime, call it a break in the middle of the summer, call it the best all-star sports weekend ever, but don’t call it boring. The All Star game is coming to Arizona.

Local Breeze To Replace Former Palatte

    - 4/07/09

    From Palatte to Pischke’s?
    Well, sort of.
Less than a month after Palatte closed in downtown Phoenix, the space has been snatched up by the original chef of Pischke’s Paradise, who’s reopening the restaurant in early May as Local Breeze.
Citing a “golden opportunity,” former Pischke’s chef Sid Campbell has come out of retirement to reintroduce several of the signature dishes that made the Old Town Scottsdale island-theme restaurant so popular for decades before it shuttered last summer.

ImprovAZ is having fun with this. First the NoPantsAZ Light Rail stunt and now a Sky Harbor arrival to remember.

    Clarendon Hotel remodeling restaurant

    - 3/23/09

There’s really no cooler place for an after party than the Clarendon. The roof top, while it certainly has its limits (literally, per fire code), is an excellent place to grab a drink while enjoying the cool night air. While the roof seems to be definitely working, the downstairs bar/restaurant area has been in flux [...]

    Let’s all work together here…

    - 3/20/09

Art Detour, a massively important, once-a-year event, is an opportunity to take the very best this city has to offer and show them all off to [...]

Please, take a look at our beta (draft, practice) site. Help us help you.
