Garfield film showing at Cronkite School
November 12, 2008 by Lyle Plocher commentPHOENIX - A film that explores citizen participation in Phoenix’s Garfield neighborhood will be shown at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. The 15-minute film explores the process of civic engagement, community building and neighborhood redevelopment through interviews and historic footage. It shows community as something that is practiced, built and imagined. “This is really about democracy in action,” says Marilyn Dantico, an ASU political science associate professor. Showings are at 5 p.m. Nov. 17 in room 440 of the Cronkite School, 555 N. Central Ave., and at 6 p.m. Nov. 20 in room 122 of the Cronkite School.
Arizona State University’s Department of Political Science and the School of Geographical Sciences received a grant from the Arizona Humanities Council to develop the film on citizen participation in the Garfield neighborhood.
