Discover India Festival 2008
November 2, 2008 by Lyle Plocher commentIndia Association of Phoenix proudly presents the 7th Annual Discover India Festival from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Nov. 23, 2008, at Heritage and Science Park, 115 N. 6th St., in downtown Phoenix.
The event celebrates the rich culture, customs and traditions of the people of India. The festival features food, music and dance programs, a display booth, children's activities and many booths offering authentic Indian food and clothing. This year’s theme is Northern India.
Highlights include a wedding re-enactment from the region of Punjab, yoga and cooking demonstrations, and a variety of dance and music performances. The types of performances will range from folk, to classical, to bollywood. The grand finale will be a costume show representing brides and grooms from different regions of India.
This free event is made possible by grants from the City of Phoenix, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Arizona Commission on the Arts. Corporate sponsors include APS, Coca-Cola, Hensley & Co., and Freescale.
India Association of Phoenix is a non-profit volunteer organization that represents the community of Indian heritage in Arizona.
