In with the "x", out with Copper Square
October 20, 2008 by Lyle Plocher comments (4)The Downtown Phoenix Partnership unveiled their new logo today, replacing the "kind of corny" Copper Square branding. The new logo is very upbeat and colorful. Hopefully, that translates into more people being interested in living, working & playing Downtown.

Kudos for not coming up with a new, lame and inappropriate name, but...
a) X marks the spot? Where, like on a Manson Family forehead? Or the crosshairs on a rifle sight? Or maybe it was borrowed from the Scopio killer. Wrong!!
b) Graphic design by Interns R Us. Honestly, the agency should be ashamed of themselves for presenting such a poor - and already outdated - design. It looks like Clipart.
Drop the whole logo branding idea. Does Bourbon Steet in NO have a logo? North Beach in SF? Melrose in LA? Its the quantity and quality of businesses there that builds 'brand awareness', through word-of-mouth and ravel writers, not a crummy logo.
Joe, don't worry. The Downtown Phoenix Partnership doesn't even operate in all of downtown. For example, my neighborhood, Central Park, which has the potential to become one of the funkiest neighborhoods in downtown is not considered to be in the what is now the former "Copper Square". DPP represents the core area with all the big stuff, from 3rd ave to 7th st and Jackson to Filmore. This will be the trendy disneyland-like area and with the big attractions. But you're right, a logo isn't going to make or break any area of the city.
Right on Joe Hill (above comment).
All of this for only one million plus of private money! That money would have been much better spent trying to get the homeless off the streets of Downtown!
What a waste of time and money.
I agree. Not sophisticated or cool at all. Did they do any surveys or research on this ahead of time?
