By a Thin Thread - Works by Ann Morton at Modified Arts
October 8, 2008 by Lyle Plocher commentModified Arts is pleased to announce the opening reception for Ann Morton on Friday October 17th from 6-9 PM.
Ann's Bio in part:
"I am an emerging artist, recovering from a long professional career as a successful graphic designer. After all this time, doing this work now feels as though I've finally come home. However, I fear self-indulgence, rather, I believe that my work must offer a perspective of thought about our American culture, and I find that exploiting traditional fiber-based techniques lends particularly appropriate voice to my own experience as an American female raised during the "baby boomer" generation. I seek to explore my personal conflict with the disconnect between the ideal of the American Story ingrained in my consciousness since childhood, the resulting habits which have become a part of my own lifestyle, and the reality of the US's questionable behavior as a global neighbor. Though I consider this subject matter quite serious, my artistic style is to infuse irony and wit into the work - employing imagery and concepts that symbolize varying juxtapositions of civility with violence or dis-ease."
The Modified Arts is located at 407 E Roosevelt St in Downtown Phoenix.
