Thursday Morning, July 10th, Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon, METRO's Chairman Tom Simplot and CEO Rick Simonetta will ride the first daylight "live wire" test train into downtown Phoenix.

When they get off the train, at the Central and Washington station, they and other METRO staff will hand out light rail safety material to passersby to help reinforce how critical it is to be safe and aware as you now drive, bike or walk around the METRO system.

This initial vehicle roll-out is called the "live wire" test in which METRO verifies the train's connection to its overhead power source.  This test is the first in a series of tests that allow METRO to safely ramp up for recurrent vehicle testing which should begin in downtown Phoenix next month.

In August, METRO will begin regular vehicle testing on an extended test area from Central Avenue and McDowell Road in Phoenix to Main Street and Sycamore in Mesa.  Testing will continue on to Montebello and 19th Avenue later this
summer.

The Mayor and others will arrive at 10 AM at the Light Rail station platform on Central Ave, just north of Washington St.
