Arts, Culture & Small Business Overlay goes before the City Council
March 31, 2008 by Lyle Plocher comments (1)The Phoenix City Council will meet Wednesday, April 2nd at 5 PM to decide whether or not to adopt the proposed Arts, Culture & Small Business Overlay for the Downtown Phoenix area. This overlay is a very important step in making the adaptive re-use of older buildings feasible and in helping to foster the opening of more Restaurants, Art Galleries and other small businesses in older homes.
Please try and show up for this meeting and let the City Council know that you think this is a good thing for Downtown Phoenix!
The City Council Chambers are located at 200 W Jefferson in the funny looking round building.
Info about the proposed Arts, Culture & Small Business Overlay

I assume you mean April 2, rather than March 2?
Regardless, this overlay is critical because it will grant Downtown businesses an automatic exemption to many suburban-style parking and zoning requirements. It moves us away from one-size-fits-all planning and allows the urban core to develop in a way that is distinct from the suburban areas of the City.
